Theme: An exhibition documenting the courage of women from various countries who broke the silence of Japanese military sexual slavery survivors, leading to a historical transformation where their stories were finally heard

This exhibition highlights the courageous voices of survivors of the Japanese military sexual slavery system and reflects on the meaning of their bravery for us today.

It presents a chronological relay of testimonies, beginning with Korea’s Kim Hak-sun, Australia’s Jan Ruff O’Herne, Malaysia’s Rozalind Soh, and the unnamed Taiwanese survivor famously photographed with her face covered. The narrative also includes the testimonies of Maria Rosa Luna Henson from the Philippines and Wan Aihua from China, showcasing the stories of the first survivors who stepped forward.

In addition, the exhibition features the earlier accounts of Bae Bong-gi, Noh Su-bok, Lee Nam-nim, and Bae Ok-soo, whose testimonies preceded Kim Hak-sun’s groundbreaking public statement. By bringing these voices together, the exhibit traces the journey from a history that was ignored to one that is finally being heard.
